The Spaniel Breeds

The wonderful world of the many varied types of Spaniels

Do you know something, even though I consider myself the ultimate Spaniel It has come to quite a shock to me how many sorts of Spaniel breeds there are across the globe.

The really interesting thing is that the situation regarding what is a Spaniel and what is'nt a Spaniel is rather complicated.

spaniels

It seems that if you are a recognised Spaniel breeds such as my Mum and Dad, no problem.

Cockers, Springers, Cavaliers and the varients of these Spaniel types are easy to categorize. But there are Spaniels that are Known as Spaniels but with different names.

Then you have Spaniels that have the name but supposedly are'nt really Spaniels.

It's enough to make a puppies head spin.

A question

Is this handsome dog in this picture a Spaniel or not ?

sprocker spaniel

Well what was your answer to my little riddle ?

Of course you all said Spaniel, what else could it be?Look at the handsome line of the jaw, the noble pose and the wisdom in the eye.

Just by chance most of you will also recognise this good looking specimen as your ole skipmeister himself, ME.

Now what if I was to say to you that some people would say that I was not a proper Spaniel.

Cut to a stunned silence.................................

Yes my lovely friends some say that because I am a Sprocker I'm not a real Spaniel. Have you ever heard such nonsense.

I have so much Spaniel coursing through my veins that somedays I think I might explode!

Anyway let me calm down and focus on the subject in hand. The point is this page is about introducing the Spaniel breeds as is currently understood.

Some will disagree some will not, the truth is that it does'nt really matter we are descended from the Wolf anyway so who cares. That is the Spaniel way, don't worry about the details, just live life to the max.

springer spaniel

This is the first in our list as probably the most popular of all of this canine speciality. It feels like that to me anyway as they seem to be everywhere. Take it from me if Mankind could find away to harness the energy given off by the Springers it would'nt be worried by running out of oil.

Cocker spaniel

As you know I am biased about this love type of spaniel especilly as I'm 50 percent Cocker myself on my dads side. But I really do think this is the ultimate pet dog.It has everything a true all rounder.

cavalier spaniel

These really are the showbiz stars of the Spaniel world. They know they are for looking at and have been doing very it successfully for centuries.

American Cocker Spaniel

These are my cousins from across the water and it's my pleasure to wish them HOWDEY !

American water Spaniel

Here is some more of my American cousins the highly regarded American water Spaniel the Pride of Wisconsin. Yahoo !
